The band was founded in 1998-1999 from three of its present members – Marian, Mihail and Vasil (as well as Kliment, who lives in Germany now and who is not in musical business any more), classmates and friends with common interests and musical preferences. After graduating high school the four best friends became students and split up in different cities in order to continue their education, but never quitted the relations between one another. In 2007, without having any further plans Evgeni (guitar) and Mihail (bass) gathered to play some music, but when the leading guitarist Marian (who just came back from Varna) rejoined them it was quite clear that the new beginning was laid! Although the fresh start, the band was suffering very seriously from the lack of a lead vocalist and a drummer. Many auditions of different local young talents have passed ineffectively, until one rehearsal of theirs, when Veselin (who was then still unknown young man, a son of musicians, having outstanding vocal qualities) was listening to the band playing, without saying a single word. After about two hours, in the end of that rehearsal, Veselin asked them to sing a song of "Whitesnake" with the boys from HeadBang. After hearing him, the two guitar players and the bassist were like thunderstruck! Finally they got the right man! Luckily the problem with finding a drummer was solved quickly in the next few weeks with enrollment of Nikolay The band would still be incomplete, if there weren’t rejoined their old friend Vasil, one of the quickest and most intelligent rhythm guitar players in the country. Having 3 guitar players HeadBang could play various melodic compositions, with dense and deep guitar sound, that few other bands could play. The musical styles, which have influenced the six guys are various, starting from funk, jazz and fusion, passing through popular music, blues, rock and roll, melodic rock, gothic and glam rock and reaching hard rock, heavy metal, thrash, death and black metal. Presently HeadBang are focused mainly on playing melodic rock, as they have ideas for playing different styles either. The name HeadBang derives from Evgeni, a notable head banger in Smolyan and a constant participant in the local underground.
